Channel 4 looks to New Voices for Autumn Bollywood season

Luck By Chance posterChannel 4 has lined up an Autumn Bollywood season that will focus on a new generation of Indian directors.

After last year’s Bollywood classics season, and then this May’s shorter  50th anniversary one, the channel plans to swing back up to date with its New Voices season.

BizAsia reports that the run of films is expected to begin in September – as per Channel 4’s usual scheduling – and will include the following films:

• Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

• Firaaq

• Dev D

• Luck By Chance

• Manorama Six Feet Under

• A Wednesday

• Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

Channel 4 also plans two more smaller Bollywood seasons in the coming months, according to BizAsia, which is welcome news.

I’m not a betting man, but if I were then I’d put money on one of these seasons including Kaminey, Wake Up Sid and Kurbaan. (The films, along with Dev D and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, were included in the Rs 95 crore syndication deal Channel 4 signed last year with UTV Motion Pictures.)

You can see all the film in Channel 4’s New Voices season as they are announced here.

  4. but i want to see british films not indian why do you put these films on ???

    • Hi Kevin

I’m a bit confused by the comment – particularly as it’s on a blog post about Bollywood films – and I presume you’re looking for an answer that is not:

      • Because it’s my blog

      • I like Indian films

      • There’s really nowhere else on the web to get all this information

      • Relatively few Indian films are shown on UK television, so it’s manageable enough to catalogue them without turning A Tangle Of Wires entirely into a TV blog

Hopefully there are plenty of tv listings websites where you can find the information you’re looking for.

  5. In 1980’s Channel 4 did 2 series of ‘Movie Mahal’.
Are series available on DVD. Please advise.

    • Do you mean the ‘Golden Age of Bollywood’ documentary? They showed it last September as part of the Bollywood classics season, but I don’t know if it’s available on DVD.

    • I have also been looking for the movie mahal series. Have
you had any luck locating this on DVD or VCR??

      • I’ve not been looking for the documentary, having seen it when it was shown on television. But, as this is the second comment about Movie Mahal, I’ve emailed Channel 4 to enquire about this – I’ll let you know what they say.

  6. I’ve blogged more about this here:

    https://tangleofwires.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/movie-mahal-documentary/

It focuses more on the Movie Mahal documentary Channel 4 showed, rather than the whole series, but it’s as much as I know about it.

    Hope you find it useful.
