The UK television channel’s New Voices season has already included films from up and coming directors like Abbas Tyrewalla and Anurag Kashyap, and now it’s the turn of Dibakar Banerjee, whose 2006 debut film was Khosla ka Ghosla.
Its follow-up, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, features lower middle class Sikh teenager Lucky, who grows up to be a prolific and charming thief.
The 2008 film sounds like it will be a lot more fun than Khosla ka Ghosla, which I’ve seen twice (once on Air India without subtitles, once on Channel 4 with) and didn’t enjoy either time, though the in-flight lack of subtitles didn’t help the first time around.
Meanwhile, though the New Voices season finishes on 3 October, Channel 4 has a new Bollywood season planned to follow hot on its heals and …
… I’ll have more on the next part of Channel 4’s autumn 2010 Bollywood plans tomorrow.
