One of the comments to this post from earlier this year has stayed with me and, simple though the equation may be: kids + Bengali cartoons = kids who don’t moan about learning Bengali (thanks Daisy!).
The above version of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (আলী বাবা চল্লীশ চোর) has so far proved popular with my nine year old son. We’ve watched about a third of the full cartoon and he made me promise not to watch the rest of it without him (so I think it works).
Thanks for linking this–I think this and other Bangla movies will be a great source (fun + doable) of audio language exposure.
Great! Glad to hear it!
Embarassingly, I find the sound in kids’ cartoons in Bangla blurry and hard to understand.
You are right.I am also having difficulties to find a Bangla cartoon video to use that in my online bengali class. But I have found 2 videos you can also try them.
“টুনটুনি আর রাজা” Try to search the words in youtube. These 2-3 videos are there, and audio is clear.Try it.
I just picked up Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves in Bangla and English from the library! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baba-Forty-Thieves-Bengali-English/dp/1844444023
But the font is small, I find some of these type of books very clear but some of them the font is small when there is more text. 😦
A GOOD KATUN
