Channel 4’s Centenary of Indian Film to begin with Zindagi Na Milegai Dobarra

Zindagi Na Milega Dobara Bollywood film poster Following on from posting the full lineup for Channel 4’s Autumn Bollywood season I can also confirm the first three films that will be shown.

First up is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, writer/director Zoya Akhtar’s light-hearted comedy-drama about three friends and an extended, eventful trip to Spain.

As with her 2009 film Luck By Chance, Zindagi … also stars her twin brother Farhan Akhtar in a crew that this time includes Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif.

It’s followed by the Delhi-set social comedy Vicky Donor. A surprise hit of last year that confounded expectations by showing that a story about a Punjabi lad who reluctantly makes his living as a sperm donor (… and whose disapproving Bengali wife then finds out) can strike box office gold.

Finally, at least as far as those films for which screen times have been announced, is Mother India, the 1957 heavy weight Bollywood classic.

Please read the times carefully – Zindagi … for example will be shown in the early hours of Monday morning, but if you’re staying up for it you’ll need to stay awake on Sunday night.

Also, the times are likely to be subject to change (the Channel 4 website suggests Om Shanti Om rather than Mother India will be one of the first three films shown, so do check nearer the time.

• Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Monday 2 September, 00:15 – 02:50

• Vicky Donor – Thursday 5 September, 01:45 – 03:55

• Mother India – Thursday 12 September, 02:45 – 05:50
